Abraham Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address speech was to honor the soldiers who fought in the battles. There were many casualties and injured after the Battle of Gettysburg. That battle was a big turning point, and dealt a lot of damage to the Confederate. Lincoln wanted to remind the other of the purpose of the war and the significance of it. He mentioned the Declaration of Independence, equality and freedom, and talked about a "new birth of freedom". He was hoping for a better nation and future for the next generation.
